CBD for animals - how it works and what to consider

Everyone who has had the pleasure of having a pet in his family knows how important it is to you that your pet is well. Each suffering, which the fur noses must go through, breaks the heart. After all, our pets are dependent on us and can only communicate with us to a limited extent if something hurts them. For this reason, we should think carefully about which remedies are best suited if we want to do something good for our animals. Cannabidiol, for example, is a natural remedy that has no significant side effects and is also well tolerated by animals.

How does the cannabinoid work in the animal body

As in humans, the organism of our animals contains an endocannabinoid system. This system, ECS for short, can be detected in all mammals. This system is responsible for certain substances, such as cannabinoids, to act on our organism. The endocannabinoid system is a part of the central nervous system and thus extends over the entire body. Thus, the ECS has different receptors (CB-1 and CB-2 receptors) to which the cannabinoids, such as CBD, dock. Once there, the active substance interacts with the receptors and thus with the central nervous system and regulates certain dysfunctions. For example, researchers have found out that CBD regulates the release of the stress hormone cortisol. Anxiety states, stress or panic attacks can be effectively combated by this process. In animals, this property has a positive effect especially in exceptional situations, such as New Year's Eve. However, the endocannabinoid system can do much more than just reduce stress. Because the entire system is an enormously complex structure, which affects the organs and bones as well as the brain.

Fields of application

The applications of CBD in animals are as diverse as the cannabinoid itself. Below we have listed some of the most common applications:
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Infections
  • Pain
  • Wound Healing
  • Epilepsy
  • Digestive disorders
  • Cancer
  • mental disorders, aggression
  • Skin diseases
  • Arthritis
However, it should be mentioned here that the animals do not necessarily have to be acutely ill to benefit from the advantages of cannabidiol. Even healthy animals can be administered cannabidiol to strengthen the animal's organism and to bring possible inconsistencies in the hormonal balance back into balance.

Can be dangerous to take

As mentioned above, no really serious side effects have been reported so far when taking CBD. Consequences can be for example: Dry mouth Drowsiness Low blood pressure Swindle Diarrhea These are of course not pleasant symptoms, but they are not dangerous and usually do not last long. However, if symptoms like these occur after taking CBD, it is important to reduce the dosage. As a pet owner, it is also good to know that CBD products in Germany contain less than 0.2% (usually even 0%) THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which means that the product is not intoxicating. The animal does not get "high" by taking cannabidiol. Nevertheless, it is not advisable to administer cannabidiol to the animal without discussing the plan with a veterinarian (preferably one who also deals with cannabis). The veterinarian will be able to get a clear picture of the animal and give precise instructions on how to treat it with cannabidiol.

CBD for dogs - Fields of application, use and benefits

The CBD also works on dogs can often confirm the practice of veterinarians. Cannabidiol has a stimulating effect on the nervous system, so it is possible to reduce the symptoms. The dog perceives the pain less. Painkillers that are administered as a permanent medication often put a strain on the detoxification organs. A natural alternative such as CBD for dogs may be the better option because it is free of side effects. Painkillers can be partially reduced or completely discontinued - we recommend working out a plan for this together with your veterinarian.

Dogs are very sensitive and often exposed to many stressful situations. With many Four-legged friends are already sufficient an uncertainty of the dog owner, which transfers fast once to the animal. Also noise, for example on New Year's Eve or during thunderstorms, can have a very stressful and frightening effect on them. Also here the CBD can be very helpful for dogs and have a calming effect. CBD does not cause a psychoactive effect in dogs, so there is no risk of them getting "high".
